Chacom Selected Straight Grain X Bulldog Pipe

The Chacom Selected Straight Grain X is a straight pipe of “Bulldog” or “Haiti” shape, recognizable by its round bowl and square shank, particularly pleasant to hold. Its matte brown finish reveals its superb grain, making this Chacom a unique piece. Its olive wood ring gives it character and elegance. Its acrylic stem is equipped with a 9mm metal filter.

Straight Grain by Chacom

Selected Straights are pipes with selected flame grain among the most beautiful briars. They are classified into three types, N, X, XX, which correspond to the size of the bowl: N for smaller bowls, X for medium bowls, and XX for large bowls. They exist in two finishes, contrasted or natural.

The Briar Selection

The pipe’s head passes through the hands of a selector who sorts through the different qualities. Eight different quality grades are distinguished, determining the price of the pipe and its possible finishes. It is said that a selector finds only one or two exceptional pipe heads in their lifetime.

• Choice AB: Heads entirely root, without any spot or branch. Series Royale or Auteuil, for example.
• Choice C: Heads up to 1/2 branch without defect. Like the Chacom Nature, Jazz series…
• Choice BM: Chosen with the 1st as well as the good flame choices. Well-rooted heads with 1 to 3 small hollow points for light filling, without branch. Choice for clear and contrasted finishes.
• Choice MO: Well-rooted heads not exceeding 1/4 branch (except front face) with 1 to 3 small hollow points to be filled. Choice for solid brown or contrasted finish.
• Choice II: Chosen with the 1st as well as the good flame choices. Well-rooted heads with 2 to 5 small hollow points for light filling, without branch. Choice for contrasted finishes to bring out the grain.
• Choice II°: Heads not exceeding 1/3 branch (except front face) and with 4 or 6 maximum small defects to be filled.
• Choice III: Well-rooted heads with more than 6 small defects to be filled or 1 defect up to 1 cm in length. Ideal choice for SANDBLASTING as it is well-veined.
• Choice IV: All heads with defects not falling into the above criteria. Heads with defects crossing inside the bowl should be eliminated.
